Many people say that the only time in their lives when they felt completely safe was during their childhood. Upon reaching adulthood, their perspective changed to accommodate the fact that safety in relationships seems conditional upon the other person’s willingness to keep promises, or stability in communities rests on the influences beyond their control. In order to feel safe, trust must be established. When we put our trust in God’s power, our lives reflect this unshakeable relationship despite what goes on around us. This passage from Psalms speaks to this, “Trust in the Lord and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” (Ps. 37:3) For April, our topic for prayerful focus from the Reading Room is safety of all kinds.
