The crushing problem of poverty can seem unsolvable, causing us to live our lives without acknowledging it. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, makes this cogent observation in her work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, “If we turn away from the poor, we are not ready to receive the reward of Him who blesses the poor.” (p. 8:22-24) It is a strong reminder that we are to follow our Master’s example of compassion and aid to those in need. The Reading Room has given us the assignment of actively demonstrating awareness of our fellow man’s needs and bringing a healing response to these needs.
